Maya Angelou

May 29th, 2014 | Posted by Sara in Uncategorized - (0 Comments)

Yesterday was a sad day in the publishing world.

Maya Angelou passed away at 86 after a sudden illness.  I saw Ms. Angelou do a children’s book reading a few years ago at the Minnesota Orchestra.  She was marvelous!

We will miss you Maya!

Looking Ahead to D-Day

May 27th, 2014 | Posted by Sara in Uncategorized - (0 Comments)

June 6th is the 70th Anniversary of D-Day.  D-Day is one of the most historic days in American history.  On June 6, American, Canadian, and English forces came together to invade France to stop Hitler’s Germany.  It was a deadly battle involving paratroopers, Navy, Air Force and Army troops.

Take time to pay tribute to the men and women who changed our world.  They gave us freedom and make the ultimate sacrifice.

Below is a interview from Major Miguel Reece.  His new book, The Disabled Veteran’s Story, tells stories from veterans of several battles.

Happy May!

Memorial Day weekend is coming!  It is the official launch of summer.  Below are a few suggested summer reading items.

1. Empty Mansions:  A wonderful piece of non-fiction about the heiress Hugette Clark.

2. Forever:  A legendary novel by Judy Blume about one girls’ coming of age.

3. Bob Hines: National Wildlife Artist by John Juriga.  A biography about America’s only official national wildlife artist.

4. Anything by Nora Roberts.  Such a wonderful, prolific fiction writer!

5. Anything by Christine Feehan.  If you are in the mood for vampires and werewolves, give her a try.

Keep on reading!

VA controversy

May 15th, 2014 | Posted by Sara in Uncategorized - (0 Comments)

So much is taking place with the VA.  Secrecy, vets not  getting treated, vets dying before receiving treatment.

For a different take, check out Major Miguel Reece’s new book, The Disabled Veteran’s Story.  He writes about vets, their journey and how they saved our world from repression.

It is a humbling, fascinating read!

Children’s Book Week

May 13th, 2014 | Posted by Sara in Uncategorized - (0 Comments)

It is a big week in publishing.  Yesterday began Children’s Book Week.  There will be various events.  Go online at: http://www.bookweekonline.com/about for more information.

I recommend these books:

Monster Needs a Nap:  Author Paul Czajak writes this adorable series about a Boy who has Monster as a friend.  They overcome real world issues such as bullying and confidence as well as what to wear for Halloween.

Also, check out The Shark Whisperer by Dr. Ellen Prager.  Prager was just on Today promoting this fun read.  Her goal is to get kids to put down the phones and iPads and get reading.

Feel free to ask him about his cooking and upcoming show.
