Happy Halloween!

October 30th, 2014 | Posted by Sara in Uncategorized - (0 Comments)

One of my favorite holidays is Halloween and it’s on a Friday this year!

Here are some of my favorite movies to enjoy tomorrow night.

1. April Fool’s Day:  a 80’s movie about teenagers at a mansion and they start dying one by one.

2. Anything Vincent Price: He has a great run of horror movies with a funny edge.

3. The Haunting: Get the 60’s version!

4. Amityville Horror:  Great haunted house movie!

5. Psycho:  No one is better than Anthony Perkins!

Enjoy!

Thank a Vet Every Day

Hi all,

Remember to Thank a Vet every day! #ThankVet.

On Friday, Huffington Post published an article by Major Miguel Reece.  It was about his book, Disabled Veteran’s Story as well as the new Disabled Veteran’s Memorial.

Check it out here!

On a totally different topic, here are some tips about promoting a book that has been on the market for a few years.

1. Mark an anniversary and do a release about the book.

2. Tie the book to a news story.

3. Tie the book to a holiday.

4.  Do a re-release.  Especially if your book never found its audience or never made a big splash.

5. Lastly, publish a supplement updating the book.

How to Use Reviews

October 23rd, 2014 | Posted by Sara in Uncategorized - (0 Comments)

Reviews are always a good thing.  Some are negative and some are positive…some are positive and negative in the same review.  All authors must be able to take criticism with the glory.

As soon as an author gets a review here are the steps I recommend to make the most of them:

1. Before a review comes out make sure the writer is aware of your release date and where readers can buy the book.

2. Also, here is a hint, sometimes a publication will not tell you when they write a review.  Make sure to set up a Google Alert for the title of your book and your name.

3. OK, the review is out.  First, post it on Twitter and Facebook.  Spread it to your followers!

4. Put it on other sites like Pintrest, LinkedIN.

5. Blog about it on your web site.

6. Have friends and family blog about it.

7.  Look at the review closely and cut a great quote from it for a blurb.

8.  Send the review around to those in the media.

9. Write a press release about the review.

10. Finally, frame it!

Only kidding!

Duchess Kate is Back!

October 21st, 2014 | Posted by Sara in Uncategorized - (0 Comments)

Duchess Catherine made her first charity appearances since being diagnosed with acute morning sickness.   She appeared at the Wildlife Photographer of the Year awards and another event in London.  I had never heard of her type of morning sickness but an article posted in Huffington Post recently describes the symptoms.

What agony!  Welcome back Kate!

Netflix, now HBO and CBS

October 16th, 2014 | Posted by Sara in Uncategorized - (0 Comments)

Yesterday was a groundbreaking day in cable/ television.  HBO decided to offer a streaming service unconnected with a cable service.  My husband and I canceled our cable service a few months ago.  We love it but we have to admit we miss a few channels.  Turner Classic Movies was my favorite.  Unfortunately one can’t have access unless you have a more expensive plan.

Now, networks are coming out with streaming services.  For $6 to 10 per month you can watch HBO or CBS shows without a cable subscription.  Although CBS is free one can watch entire seasons of programs like The Good Wife.

TCM are you listening?

Joan Fontaine

October 14th, 2014 | Posted by Sara in Uncategorized - (0 Comments)

Items from the home of Academy-Award winning actress Joan Fontaine will be auctioned off this winter.  Fonatine was a classy actress and starred in one of my favorite movies, The Women.  She could place the ice queen and the innocent.

Christie’s says her possessions could bring $200,000 to $300,000.  One of the most prized items is her 1941 Oscar for best actress for Hitchcock’s Suspicion.

Here is a list of the best Fontaine movies:

The Women starting Norma Shearer and Joan Crawford

Rebecca starting Lawrence Olivier

Suspicion starring Cary Grant

Fontaine died last year at 96 at her Carmel, CA home.

Nobel Prize Winner

October 9th, 2014 | Posted by Sara in Uncategorized - (0 Comments)

It was announced this morning that Patrick Modiano won the Nobel Prize for Literature.

Modiano won the award for the “art of memory with which he has evoked the most ungraspable human destinies and uncovered the life-world of the occupation of France during World War II.”

Wow! He is called the Marcel Proust of Our Time.

If anyone wants to check him out go to http://www.theguardian.com/books/2014/oct/09/patrick-modiano-wins-nobel-prize-for-literature
