Social Media Tips

November 19th, 2015 | Posted by Sara in Uncategorized - (0 Comments)

Hi all!

I’m back from my move!

I wanted to pass along some tips for social media.

Having social media is vital to any public relations need.  It is also vital to have the one communicating be experienced in social media as well as PR.

1. Host a monthly event.  Do a Friday Fun Day online to get to know your followers.

2. Get to know your followers online and then face to face.

3.  Set up a Skype account and get to know all the different aspects of Skype: Skype in the Classroom, TED, etc.

4. Make sure to get familiar with one social media service and then expand.  Don’t feel the need to use every platform and be spread thin.

5. Lastly, keep all of your social media addresses in your email signature.

Have a good night!

Good afternoon all!

There is big news in the world of Lien Public Relations.  After being located in Minneapolis, MN for 5 year, we are moving to Michigan.  As of November 18, I will be operating my business in Grand Rapids, MI.  It is a very vibrant and creative city in the Lower Peninsula of Michigan or LP!

I’m looking forward to soaking in the local restaurants, culture, and beautiful weather.

If you are interested in more information about the area go to http://grcity.us/Pages/default.aspx.

Happy Friday!

I’ve spent some time on a blog writing about stories that need more attention.  Sure, we all love to read about Kim Kardashian’s exploits and who Blake Shelton is dating, but many times real hard news stories get lost in the shuffle.  Here I will mention three stories I feel need more attention.

1. Greek authorities say five more migrants were found dead in the eastern Aegean Sea.  The story is big news in the world but we seem to bury it after who is dating the latest hot celebrity.

2. The death toll rises to 26 after Pakistan factory collapses. http://www.nytimes.com/2015/11/06/world/asia/death-toll-in-pakistan-factory-collapse-rises-to-20.html?_r=0

3. Russia to suspend flights to Egypt after crash. http://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/nov/06/putin-suspends-russian-flights-to-egypt-after-sinai-plane-crash

4. Will Smith said he will tour again with DJ Jazzy Jeff.  (OK, I had to get one in!) http://www.usatoday.com/story/life/music/2015/11/05/smith-says-hes-planning-first-real-tour-dj-jazzy-jeff/75232012/

Have a great weekend!

Amazon’s Big Gamble

November 5th, 2015 | Posted by Sara in Uncategorized - (0 Comments)

News Tidbit:

Amazon announced this week that they are opening a brick and mortar store in Seattle.

Very interested considering many bookstores are closing because of Amazon.

The store will include customer ratings of books alongside the book.  The store will also encourage customers to buy later on Amazon.

New Albums

October 30th, 2015 | Posted by Sara in Uncategorized - (0 Comments)

Or CDs…. or Downloads.

Or is it Streaming…?

I don’t know but I do know I love music.  Today some great music was released.  A few months ago the music industry decided to start releasing music on Fridays instead of Tuesdays.

Sounds great to me.

So today be sure to listen to these new albums:

“If I Can Dream: Elvis Presley with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra”

“We Love Disney” – Various Artists

“Get Up” – Bryan Adams

This album was one long rock tribute.  It is clever, fun and always good.

Also, listen to Adele’s “Hello” again.

Happy Halloween and November!

Halloween Preview

October 29th, 2015 | Posted by Sara in Uncategorized - (0 Comments)

I will be at a fun event on Saturday morning.  If you live in the Minneapolis area, I will be at the Edina Pottery Barn Kids doing a storytime for Monster Needs a Costume by Paul Czajak at 11 AM.  We will have treats and a craft.  Bring you kids and dress up.  I’ll be in mouse in the storytime area.

Many people love Halloween.  One of the greatest things about this time of year are the movies, books and TV surrounding fall and Halloween.

Here is a list of some of some of my favorites:

TV: “Sleepy Hollow”  There is nothing like the 1940s animated version narrated by Bing Crosby. I was transfixed when I saw it last night after many years.

Movies: “Watcher in the Woods”  This is a creepy movie no matter your age.  It has Bette Davis, a English mansion and a mystery in the woods.  Enough said.

Music: Go to Spotify and listen to stories read by Boris Karloff.  Genius.

Books: I love anything by VC Andrews or Christopher Pike.  I grew up reading their horror and fantasy books.

Happy Halloween!

Great PR tips

October 23rd, 2015 | Posted by Sara in Uncategorized - (0 Comments)

Happy Friday all!

Today I read some great articles about PR.  The first is about getting the media’s attention and the next is about blog tours and blog hops.

http://www.molly-greene.com/author-promotion-blog-tours-hops-sharing-contests/

Very relevant.

What strikes me most about the media article is the great advice that I often see not taken.  For example, one should say yes to a reporter if they wish to interview you that day.

It’s short notice but do it no matter what.

Also, treat journalists with respect.  They are doing you a favor and that favor can be taken away very quickly.

If authors want to succeed, it takes work.  Again, success is hard work and there is no way around it.

Amazon and reviewers

October 22nd, 2015 | Posted by Sara in Uncategorized - (0 Comments)

Good Afternoon and Happy Thursday!

This week it was announced that Amazon would be suing more then 1,000 sellers of fake product reviews.

They targeted account holders on Fiverr.com where jobs are sold for $5 and up.

For new authors, getting any positive review is a wonderful accomplishment.  Knowing it may be fake is horrible.

When looking for reviews, make sure the person who will review is not taking money for a 5 star review.  One wants an unbiased review.

The lines can be fuzzy as many web sites do take payment so a person can get a faster review, but always make sure the review is unbiased.

Never a dull moment in the world with Amazon around.

Creative PR Techniques

October 16th, 2015 | Posted by Sara in Uncategorized - (0 Comments)

Happy Friday!

In this day and age of technology and people having very short attention spans, authors needs to try many different techniques to get readers interested.  I’ve included a few that I have used.

1. Write short and edgy articles.  Develop relationships with a few bloggers or better yet a publication like Huffington Post.  Blog for them.  Do cross-promotion.  That means you discuss each others products on your blogs, web sites, etc. Recently an author I work with published this on Huff Post.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/paul-czajak/the-good-bad-celebrity_b_8253116.html

It is getting him some traction in the publishing world.

2. Give books away. Do a GoodReads giveaway.  I can’t stress enough that in order to get, authors have to give.  It may be a GoodReads campaign or an unpaid speaking engagement. If this occurs, the changes of getting back are greater.

3. Use social media.  Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Pintrest… whatever your social media choice is, make sure you update it with regularity.  For Twitter, we had an author do Twitter chats with classrooms about one topic.  We are trying to trend on Twitter.

Those are my top three!

Keep trying and if you affect one reader’s life for the better, it is worth it!
