Super Bowl and State of the Union

January 28th, 2014 | Posted by Sara in Uncategorized - (0 Comments)

There are so many events coming up:

Super Bowl is this Sunday.

Oscars are March 2.

Tonight is the State of the Union.

Last Sunday were the Grammys.  They always make headlines and this year was no exception:  Pharrell Williams’ hat, Lorde’s fingers and Daft Punks helmets. All were headline makers.

What was your favorite moment?

I have worked at home since 2010. It can be lonely, it can be quiet but it can also be exciting.  Many people ask me how I do it.   I’m going to give my top five tips to being successful working at home.

1.        Have an area of your home dedicated to working.  I have a home office off of my kitchen. I look at that office as the place I go from 9-5.   Although it is in my home, I don’t think I have to work 24 hours per day.

2.       Prioritize your life.  Do you want a family, relationships, friends?  If so, you need to limit when you work.  I prize my relationships as well as my professional life and I do think there is time for all of it.  When I hear a person is working all the time and into the late night, I think they must not be accomplishing much.  Work when you are rested and can think the best.

3.       Time Manage!  I make lists of objectives for the day.  I finish them.  They are not monumental objectives.  They are things I can complete in one day verses 2 weeks.

4.       Manage expectations.  Manage yours and others.  Make sure you can be successful with your objectives.

5.       Do what you love.  Before you start your business, sit down and figure out your passion.  What do you love to do?  Then develop a path and plan to start your business.

Those are my tips!  Small business life is not easy but it is very gratifying.

Don’t give up!

Amazon change

January 21st, 2014 | Posted by Sara in Uncategorized - (0 Comments)

I saw this yesterday on Amazon’s newsletter.

Minimum Electronic Payment Threshold Removed

Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) authors who receive their royalty payments electronically will now be paid in full every month for all their sales without any minimum thresholds for payout. This gives authors greater access to their earnings and a more reliable payment schedule, 60 days after the month royalties are earned. It’s easy to set your account payment preference for the Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) royalty payment option. Simply sign in to your KDP account and under “Your Royalty Payments,” select EFT for each applicable marketplace.

This is great news because many authors have difficulties getting payment information.  Now authors can access their accounts and receive payments, no matter the amount, every month!

Today I’m going to do a rundown of all things Oscar and award season.

The Oscar nominations for 2013 were released today.  Barkad Abdi was nominated for his first movie role in Captain Phillips.  What a wonderful accomplishment for this first-time actor.  I hope he stays down to earth and will receive many more movie roles!

It was a big morning for American Hustle. The director and actors all received nominations.

Surprising, Saving Mr. Banks and The Butler we shut out of nominations.

Meryl Streep received her 18th nomination for August: Osage County.

Julia Roberts is also back in the running for August: Osage County.

Brad Pitt is up for best picture with 12 Years a Slave.

The awards are announced March 2.

I’m looking forward to it.

Olympic Fever!

January 14th, 2014 | Posted by Sara in Uncategorized - (0 Comments)

On February 6, the Olympics begin.  Last weekend, the US National Championships aired on NBC.  It got me in the spirit.  I’m looking forward to the figure skating competition.  There will be major battles in women’s skating with Kim Ye Na and Mao Asado.  However, their are two or three bright newcomers on the American team.

1. Gracie Gold, 2014 US National Champion, she is on skating fire and look for her to do well at the Olympics

2. Polina Edmonds,  she is the silver medalist and skates like Oksana Bauiel.

3. Lastly, do yourself a favor and watch the 2014 men’s silver medalist: Jason Brown.  His performance was electric.

Go USA!

Good afternoon!

I wanted to let everyone know about a wonderful artist and exhibit.  Bob Hines was an artist and a conversation pioneer.

Starting on January 7, the Roger Tory Peterson Institute in Jamestown, NY has an exhibit about Hines that goes until May 25.  Hines was one of the country’s greatest wildlife artists as well as conservationists.  He worked with Rachel Carson and started the Federal Duck Stamp contest.

My client, John Juriga, is the Hines scholar.  His book Bob Hines: National Wildlife Artist if phenomenal.

I’m back!

January 2nd, 2014 | Posted by Sara in Uncategorized - (0 Comments)

Good afternoon!  After a wonderful holiday break, I’m back blogging!

Today’s topic is about something I don’t understand.  Maybe everyone can help me!  Now, I have not seen Duck Dynasty but I don’t understand the controversy with the program!

The show makes millions of dollars and it has millions of viewers.   It seemed like they merchandised every produce this Christmas from Chia Pets to blankets and bed sheets.

I don’t understand it!  What makes them special?  Are they educated?  Are they talented?  Are they the new Kardashians?

So, the family patriarch said horrible and wildly inappropriate things about gay rights and we are surprised?

Huh?

He gets suspected…products are taken off the shelves… then A&E welcomes him back.

Every news outlet discussed it and it was even breaking news on my news apps!

Please explain to me why this is news?

It’s a TV show not real life.

My resolution for 2014 is for TV networks to have better entertainment options in 2014.
